The adaptations of a noctural animal
Working in the nights, is the way to be at IIT. Almost everyone works (if at all) in the nights. Most of the studying happens in one night, the one before the exam of course. Days are when we are just expected to attend lectures or doodle around in labs. Neither merits much activity, cerebral or otherwise. So in every conceivable way most of us are nocturnal creatures.
Now coming to an internship like I am in now, one has to get up, prepare some food (if one has got up in time and the previous night one starved) and go to a place of work where one is expected to stay from 9 to 5. Its not written on the walls, but it rather goes unsaid, the timing. Adapting to such time schedules does take some time and a fair amount of doing. And as I learn, is much slower than even adjusting to the weather (btw yesterday the minimum was 3 degrees).
Remaining active in the mornings or concentrating after the noon meal are hard tasks. Especially in the nice and warm labs, with some soothing music playing in the background. The sun system I work on further does not give a great deal of encouragement in staying awake. So I guess it is going to take some time to get in the groove and basically get started.
